Grab a cuppa and I’ll tell you how this writing thing started for me.
When I was 13 years old, I secretly wrote in an old pink diary. Remember the ones with the lock & key and OMG the secrets they kept! I was so scared that my sister would pick the lock, I got rid of it before any of my secrets were ever revealed.
I somehow got over that and bought new diaries. Year after year, my diary stash grew and as I entered my 20’s I decided to give creative writing a go at RMIT. That was it…I was hooked.
Of course, reading is a big thing for me too. I’m what you’d call a voracious reader. If a topic grabs my attention, I need to find it, buy it, borrow it, whatever it takes. I remember, landing back in Melbourne after six weeks holidaying around Greece in 2011, and couldn’t stop thinking about the Greek Islands. I became a little obsessed about Santorini. I searched for documentaries, read fiction, watched YouTube Greek island cooking shows. Then one day, I started writing.
Now, even though many moons ago, I threw myself into a writing course; I don’t for one moment consider myself a literary genius by any stretch, but here I am today, holding my first draft manuscript, ever so gently, feeling super proud and excited.
Sure, I’m nervous about the editing process, but the natural thing to do write about it… just like the good ol’ days.
see you next time 🙂
